The Beginning of an elegant rocker :))

As the title of this post suggests, I have begun preparing, gathering, searching, collecting the necessary stuffs for the crafting of this elegant rocker. At the same time, I’m still learning and researching about Sam Maloof’s rocker, Sam Maloof’s joinery and etc. It will be a long journey before the completion of this project. Again, I hope I wouldn’t take too long for the completion of this project as I’ve taken 25 months for my split top roubo bench.

However, I can’t really rush the drying wood part, eh. It will take between 8-12 months for it to dry and stabalise. Fingers crossed, I’ll probably take a total of 18 months for the completion of the project.

Comparing this project with my split top roubo workbench , I think this will  be a much complex project as there are 2 parts to it. Firstly, an intermediate woodworking skills are required to craft this rocker. The other is the artistic design visualization requirement for the sculpting process. Through google searching, I found that Sam Maloof rocker is being catogarized as a fine woodworking project.

Sure enough to craft an elegant rocker, you can probably read from books, magazines, watching DVD’s and etc. But in the end, it is you who are crafting it and the final piece is the product of “how you see it, feel it, touch it and present it

Progress as of today August 01, 2015

  1. Meranti wood for the rocker, accumulated (in the process of drying).
  2. Tools , obtained from previous projects (except an electric shaper/carver).
  3. Templates and Jigs for the rocker, prepared, (thank you Scott Morrison fine woodworker).
  4. *Optional* Wood steamer for the rocker, not available
  5.  Finishing oil, available from previous projects.

I guess that’s about it for now while I research more onto the crafting of this elegant rocker.
